A die-cut iridescent layered-glass hummingbird suncatcher in mid-flight, about 17 × 14 cm, hung from a fine gold cord. The body shifts through turquoise, sea-green, sapphire, lavender and deep purple as the light catches it; the wings flash peacock-rainbow amber-gold.
What makes the colour real is not paint and not a coating. It is iridised carnival glass — the 1908 American chemistry of misting stannous chloride onto hot glass while it is still glowing. The iridescence is the glass itself. It cannot fade, peel or scratch off.
Hand-made by Cerys Howell in her first-floor studio above the Llangefni harbour on Anglesey. The 78-year-old Stourbridge glassmaster who supplies the hand-iridised sheets retires at the end of August 2026, the same day the studio closes. Once the final 167 hummingbirds are gone, there will not be more.
Includes: Hummingbird + fine gold cord + suction-cup hook. Hand-wrapped in cream tissue with a written note.
